    Conversion of Underground Electric Utilities

    Raster to vector conversion services

    Background and Objectives

    The objective of the project was to provide raster to vector conversion services of Underground Electrical Utilities (UEU) that includes "Residential Developments" (URD's), "Apartment Developments" (UAD's) and "Mobile Home Developments" (UMD's), resulting in vectorized CAD files.

    Services Rendered & Methodology

    • Pre-processing and scaling
      • Hard copies of the UEU are checked for clarity of information and missing data (dimensions and other text).
      • Queries are recorded and communicated to customer for clarification
      • Digitisation of base map (right-of-way, easements, lakes, rivers sidewalks, buildings, and property lines etc.) at 1:1 scale and conversion of existing scanned images in 1:60, 1:80 or 1:100 scales to suitable scale for digitization

      • Scanned UEU maps opened in Microstation J Image Manager for scaling.
      • The image is scaled to 1:1 using the given dimensions on the hard copy
      • Basemap linear elements (right-of-way, easements, lakes, rivers, sidewalks, buildings, and property lines etc.) digitised initially.
      • Title blocks are placed as per specifications provided by the customer
      • Placement of basemap text elements performed after placing the basemap linear lines within the title block(s).
      • All the text elements (Lot Number, Lot Address, Front Lot Dimension, Street names, Lake, River, Pond Names, Block Numbers, Sub divisional Names, Primary Miscellaneous text, Secondary Miscellaneous text, Other Miscellaneous text & Street Direction Notations) digitised as per the technical specifications provided by the customer.
      • All the electrical cells such as the pole(s), transformers, fusing or switching cabinets, manholes, pedestals, hand holes, lightning arrester cabinets, etc., digitised as per the technical specifications provided by the customer.
      • The electric lines digitised as per the JEA standards. JEA's linestyle resource file used for digitizing special line styles.
