Background and Objectives

The client is a leading exploration company based in Australia and has executed several projects in North America and Australia. The client is a geosciences and technology based Exploration Company that has developed an innovative business model that applies geosciences, intellectual and technological capabilities for a new generation approach to sub-surface exploration around the globe that increases the rate of discovery in projects. The aim is to provide the industry with the next generation of quality projects.

Key Aspects of the Project

  • Two types of projects were executed, namely, surface and trench - factual and interpretive mapping and underground geology mapping.
  • The projects were a part of a regional study conducted by the client, involving digital data compilation and regional/ terrain scale geological modeling.

Services Rendered and Methodology

  • Trench and Surface Mapping : Factual and Interpretive

    Scans in jpeg format and AutoCAD files were used as input data.

    The scope of the work involved the following:

    • Registering of scans
    • Importing to MicroStation, scaling and layerization of linework
    • Polygonising and color filling
    • Point placement
    • Exporting to MapInfo and attribution
    • Appending files into a final file for both MicroStation and MapInfo

    Deliverables

    • String, point and polygon files in .DGN format
    • String, point and polygon files in MapInfo format
  • Underground Geology Mapping

    Scans with map bound in jpeg format were used as input data.

    The scope of work involved the following activities:

    • Registering of scans using the map bound provided and ensuring that the corners correspond to the corners on the scans.
    • Digitizing and line capture as per pre-defined criteria
    • Polygon creation and layerization
    • Exporting to MapInfo and attribution.

    Deliverables

    • String, point and polygon files in .DGN format
    • MapInfo files for each after data capture and polygon creation
