Magnasoft develops models of overhead lines, structures, terrain and vegetation features by utilizing the latest LiDAR data acquisition technologies. Magnasoft’s 3D transmission line mapping offers rich insights to power utilities on wire stringing, vegetation encroachment and sag profiling. We help to develop highly accurate, 3D surveys of terrain, vegetation and electric utility infrastructure.
In addition to our transmission line mapping services, we use ortho and LiDAR data for 3D corridor mapping and catenary stringing mapping:
3D Corridor Mapping
All planimetric features are extracted from ortho and LiDAR data across the path of the corridor. Based on this information, Magnasoft assigns the 3D elevations to every feature. Magnasoft highly accurate 3D feature models extracted from point cloud data enable power utility providers to calculate line ratings, element sag and tension. The 3D models depict the actual “as-built” surveys that map the relationship between all natural and manmade features. Also, the effect of weather conditions on powerline state and performance is calculated to provide an accurate “on-ground” representation.
Catenary Stringing
Magnasoft supports power utilities to visualize the point of attachment and point of interaction between the wire and the tower. We utilize the most updated software to string all the power line wires, to match the existing conditions. We also identify conductor and insulator attachment points.
Power utility companies leverage our services to precisely analyze information of Powerline and ground features. Substations are critical utility assets that are part of an electrical generation, transmission, and distribution system. Understanding the condition of Transmission and Distribution (T&D) network assets is a big challenge today, to prevent safety hazards. Magnasoft’s Remote visual T&D asset inspection and health monitoring services use detailed and precise network measurements in 3D to help utilities monitor and maintain their network assets.
Utilities require precise and up-to-date 3D utility network data for engineering analysis and network design. Our 3D line modelling services include: Creation of Method-1 structures to match LiDAR, Creation of Method-4 structures based on LiDAR, utility material database and
standards, field photos of structures and as-built drawings (for engineered steel poles) and thermal calculations to calculate as-surveyed temperature of conductor and graphically sag
conductors to match existing conditions. We provide thermal rating reports which include maximum temperature for which vertical required clearance under a wire just becomes insufficient. Based on this report, utilities can identify clearance violations with nearby buildings, roads, etcetera in the existing conditions. Finally, we provide structural analysis by modeling poles and pylons using Method-4 structures.
Magnasoft’s powerline vegetation encroachment monitoring data service provides utilities with detailed vegetation management reports that elaborate on the encroachments due to dangerous growth of the trees along the corridor. Details include span-wise violations, location details of encroachment, graphic representations of encroachment and standards considered for analysis.
Vegetation encroachment can cause service interruptions. Magnasoft’s web-based power line vegetation encroachment monitoring data service offers power utility service providers a cost-effective, efficient and accurate method to monitor transmission lines and surrounding vegetation. Using the classified point cloud data and catenary wires, we run our customized tool to find the location where the vegetation is approaching the wires, within the client’s defined permissible range.
